The Benefits of Riding a Bike
It may have been twenty years ago that you rode a bicycle, but the healthy benefits of biking might motivate you to try it again. With Americans becoming increasingly more overweight every year, it’s important to remember that exercise can go a long way in helping to keep those pounds off. Biking is fun- don’t you remember that from your childhood? It didn’t seem like a chore then and the best part of biking is that it probably won’t seem like a chore now, unlike many other exercise options.
Biking can be enjoyable when you consider your many options. Take your bike down to the beach, if you live near one. Or the river or lake, whichever works for where you live. Parks are also beautiful places to bike, and they often have paths expressly designed for biking. So you get to exercise and enjoy your local scenery. You don’t have to be stuck in a gym on a treadmill, which can be boring and make you less likely to exercise regularly.

Bicycling can be a great total body workout.
We know that biking can be great in beautiful surroundings. What are the other benefits of biking? It can be a low-impact exercise and that is a good option for those just getting back in shape. Also, though, you can turn biking into a high-impact exercise simply by changing your route. Try going where there are small hills or bigger hills when you feel ready. By simply changing your scenery you can change the intensity of your workout.
In addition, biking is beneficial for your body because it is easy on your joints, unlike running, for example. This is good for people who may have limited range of motion. Low-impact biking has also been found to lower cholesterol and help lower blood pressure. And if you find that stress is a big part of your life, then biking can be great for this relief as well. You can just imagine how a leisurely ride around your neighborhood could take the edge off and reduce your anxiety.
Try biking today. Perhaps it might be a good idea to borrow a friend’s bike and see if it’s for you. Take a cruise around your local park or ride a bike to the store instead of driving. You will find that not only did you get some exercise for your body, but you will feel refreshed mentally, too. Then, get your whole family to participate!
